Around the Pool
Around the Pool is a gallery portraying a snapshot of Hartlepool, in north-east England, where I lived for over 40 years, The present-day town is an amalgamation of the original historic headland medieval town of Hartlepool and the former West Hartlepool, founded in 1854 when new docks and a railway were set up to transport coal from the Durham coalfields. The new town became a major port, ship building and steel making centre during the early 20th century. The demise in these industries resulted in the port being transformed into a large marina which now includes the National Museum of the Royal Navy. It takes a long time to transform a town’s image, but I’ve seen a lot of transformation over the last 60 plus years of my lifetime, a little of which can be seen here.
